Rhetorical Analysis Of Steve Jobs By Malcolm Gladwell

Rhetorical Analysis- Steve Jobs Given the task of conceptualizing a man who truly changed the realm of technology as we know it today, my mind secludes one person. That person is Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Computer, now known simply as Apple. For this rhetorical analysis, I will be using three biographies/profiles about Jobs including â€Å"The Real Genius of Steve Jobs† by Malcolm Gladwell with The New Yorker (June 19, 2017), â€Å"Jobs’ Biography; Thoughts on Life, Death, and Apple† from NPR (October 25, 2011), and â€Å"Steve Jobs† from Biography.com (April 28, 2017). Precise attention to the audience, purpose, and tone, allows all three of these profiles to vividly explain and represent Jobs as the truly exceptional man that he was. â€Å"The Real†¦show more content†¦I feel as if there is a negative connotation to the profile as a whole, making Jobs look like a criminal. It is written in a tone that relays that Jobs did not deserve what he had. Think about all the things we use today that have a piece of Jobs’ mind behind them; whether he â€Å"invented† them or not, you can see that he truly molded the world of technology as we know it. â€Å"Jobs’ attention to detail on his creations was unrivaled, says Isaacson. Though he was a technologist and businessman, he was also an artist and designer.† (Jobs’ Biography NPR par 11) This profile focuses on and summarizes a biography written about Jobs by Walter Isaacson. Its purpose is to detail Jobs’ entire life, starting from a very young age when he found out he was adopted. Isaacson, the author of Jobs’ official biography writes, â€Å"For Steve Jobs, he felt throughout his life that he was on a journey – and he often said, ‘The journey was the reward.’† Jobs felt that all design was important whether it could be seen or not. Countless designs brought to him were turned down because they were too complex. â€Å"I see the depth of simplicity,† said Jobs. This profile has a much more casual tone and focuses on Jobs as a person, and not so much as a businessman. The profile is written in a tone that does n ot discredit what Jobs has accomplished. However, several bits and pieces from the Jobs’ biography (Isaacson) were included in the profileShow MoreRelatedRhetorical Analysis Of Steve Jobs1178 Words   |  5 PagesRhetorical Analysis- Steve Jobs Given the task of conceptualizing a man who truly changed the realm of technology as we know it today, my mind secludes one person. Question: Discuss about the Description of internship program. Answer: Description of internship program It has been a while when I have done my internship in a pizza shop in Melbourne named Pizza Religion. Over the course of semester, I had an opportunity to work with the reputed pizza shop in Melbourne. I had provided with opportunities to explore the different departments in the pizza shop and overall it was a great experience for me as I attended different meetings, interacted with the chefs of the shop and get their feedbacks. My main job role in the pizza shop was to handle the accounts department of the shop. As I was doing my internship on accounts and administrative domain, I had the opportunity to handle the accounts of the shop and understand the methods of payment as well. Learning from Internship program During the internship program, I had the chance to learn the practical aspects of accounting and administration by handling the invoices and cashbook of the shop. I had learnt about cashbook, financial management along with proper utility of the information on accounting in the organization. I did proper preparation of policies in order to generate correct utilization of funds in the organization in order to gain huge revenues in the future. I had the chance to ensure accuracy of the reconciliation of the accounts of all the payments and deposits that are made by the bank on the monthly basis. Duration of Internship program My internship program was for a period of 12 weeks that commenced from 15/6/2017 to 18/8/2017. As I had full interest in the accounts and marketing domain so it was a great experience for me in the field of both accounts and marketing department in the pizza shop. During the internship program, I was provided with the scope of learning and applying my financial and marketing knowledge practically as well. Problems faced by me during internship program Firstly, there were issues for me in order to handle the financial statements of the company. I had difficulty in managing the cashbooks and bank reconciliation accounts of the pizza shop. I tried handling them but I failed as there were issues in the calculation of the entire profit and loss of the company. Furthermore, I could not handle the marketing job properly as well in the starting as I could not make the customers understand about the different dishes that are available at Pizza Religion shop. However, as the time passed, I had gained knowledge on preparing the profit and loss account along with handling the grievances of the customers as well. SMART Analysis of Pizza Religion To introduce healthy alternatives within the pizza industry as there will be motivational conflict among the individuals whether to visit Pizza Religion or other stores in the area. Pizza Religion needs to implement strategies that will look after the different aspects of the individuals about consuming healthy food items. To create a new image of Pizza Religion as the restaurant chain that wants and cares about their customers in order to keep them healthy by reducing the level of fat and salt from the food items. Pizza Religion needs to meet the expectations of the customers by becoming health conscious and encourage the customers visit Pizza Religion often by relinquishing guilt of eating such food items that are rich in calories and fat. SWOT Analysis of Pizza Religion Strengths Became most reputed pizza shops in the industry within a span of 8 years It is situated in Melbourne airport about 20 minutes of drive Giving home delivery to their customers within 30 minutes Standby generator for facing the power shortage Spacious car parking facilities Weaknesses Site of the pizza shop is weakness of the restaurant as there are many motor shops and car showrooms Customers do not prefer visiting such places often Short term period of existence in hospitality sector Limited room space Expensive costs of pizzas Opportunities Memberships for the business can increase their revenues Proper sponsoring of various local events such as musical nights Introduction of special combo offers for the regular customers Threats Increasing competition Limited market due to recession Increase in labor and food prices Recommendations Therefore, after the comprehensive report on the hospitality sector on Pizza Religion, I came up with few suggestions for Pizza Religion to tackle with the existing conditions of the restaurant and to cope with the emerging competitors in the market as well. Pizza Religion should enhance their business by introducing new products in their menu The restaurant needs to conduct proper promotional activities in order to retain the customers It has to consider the other restaurants in the same area as their competitors Lastly, Pizza Religion needs to introduce and open other outlets in areas wherein there will be strong customer base in the future. Racist speech free essay sample

On Racist Speech: A Critical Analysis Introduction Charles R. Lawrence Ill, a professor of law at Stanford University, wrote the article On Racist Speech against the growing incidence of racial violence, especially in University campuses in the U. S. A college campus has the status of a home for the students residing therein, and as such any racist aggression or violence in general and racist speech in particular have the potential to disturb the law, order, and harmony in the social environment, apart from causing injury to the victims of such racial behavior. This paper attempts to analyze the reasons and arguments mooted y Lawrence to demand that racist speech must be regulated, more so in a college campus environment. It also examines how such regulation will impinge upon, or impact, the rights assured under the First Amendment. Summary Lawrence begins his article with a focus on the unmistakable message that racial speech sends a destructive message to minorities that they are inferior and are in turn second class citizens. We will write a custom essay sample on Racist speech or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page (Lawrence). He further feels that the problem of racist speech has been framed as one in which the liberty of free speech is in conflict with the elimination of racism. He continues: l believe this has placed the bigot on the moral high ground and fanned the rising flames of racism. Above all, I am troubled that we have not listened to the real victims, that we have shown so little understanding of their injury, and that we have abandoned those whose race, gender, or sexual preference continues to make them second-class citizens. (Lawrence). The essayist laments that libertarians in civil society who stoutly oppose the plea for clamping down on racist speech have turned away their ears from the cries of the real victims as they do not really understand or appreciate the ature and extent of harm suffered by the victims. Exposing the reality of how championing the cause of free speech for its own sake comes in conflict with efforts to eradicate racism, Lawrence makes an impassioned case for eliciting support from the powers-that-be. A major support that the essayist relies on to drive home his point is the now famously known Brown v. Board of Education case that finally drew curtains on the segregation of students in schools on racial lines. He held this up to show that the government took its awareness of the problem of racism to its next ogical step of legal intervention with a view to getting rid of the system of signs and symbols that signal the inferiority of blacks. (Lawrence). Later in his essay, Lawrence takes a strident view that the goal of ending racial oppression and racist speech would remain an empty dream unless and until the regulation of free speech becomes a reality. He argues that under the cover of free speech, racist elements tend to take a moral high ground and go on to add fuel to the fire of this burning issue, thus fanning the rising flames of racism. (Lawrence). He thus feels that those ho blindly oppose the plea for bridling of free speech in order to halt racial oppression only help in rendering racial animosities grow stronger by the day. Writing Techniques Charles Lawrence has a gifted style of narration that is lucid and flowing. He writes hard-hitting and honest in his exposition of the realities of life as he sees it, and makes forceful pleas to eradicate the evil of racist speech. Critical Analysis The strong plea for regulation of free speech made by Lawrence aims at eliminating racist oppression and racist speech even at the cost of legal restrictions to the rights ndowed under the First Amendment. The writer thinks that if society has not been successful in this direction for so long, then it would be futile to imagine that free speech should continue even as the fght against racism goes on. He does not buy the argument that free speech empowers all people, including the victims of racism, to express their views and problems freely. To support his view, he cites the Supreme Court, which ruled that the First Amendment could not be construed as protecting words, which by their very utterance inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace. (Lawrence). I am inclined to agree with the views of the author inasmuch as unbridled freedom of speech might rather help in entrenching racist attitudes deeper than in eradicating the evil.
